Inflammation in Dialysis: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions

Chronic inflammation is pervasive among dialysis patients possessing a strong association with malnutrition, cardiovascular risk, and mortality. Despite this knowledge, inflammation remains an unaddressed issue in dialysis patient education and counseling.

This lecture will explore inflammation in dialysis as well as nutritional and lifestyle approaches that can be implemented to lower inflammatory processes and improve overall health for the dialysis population.

  1. Identify and describe inflammatory processes in dialysis patients

  2. Describe dietary solutions to help reduce inflammation in patients undergoing dialysis

  3. Explain steps health care providers can take to help implement dietary solutions in clinical practice
